The Greater Flint Middle School League (GFMSL) Athletic Directors met today to finalize 7th & 8th Girls Basketball and 7th & 8th Football schedules this fall. Practice and Contest schedules for Girls Basketball, Football and Sideline Cheer will be a delayed start. The updated information is posted below.
*Reminder, both in-person learning and Brandon Learn From Home students are allowed to participate in Brandon School sports. It’s not too late to join!!! Check out our athletic website, https://brandonblackhawks.org/fall-sports/ for physical requirements.
New, per Executive Order 2020-176: A facial covering is to be worn at all times (except when swimming) by all athletes, coaches and spectators. Yes, athletes will have to practice and compete with a face covering.
MS Boys & Girls Cross Country – No Changes. Practice and Contests can proceed as scheduled. Face cover/masks will be worn at all times.
7th & 8th Football – Official Practices will begin on Wednesday 9/9, after school 2:15 – 5:00pm. Players can pick up their helmet on Tuesday 9/9 after school, and if they have their physical paperwork turned in, they can stay for optional conditioning. All players must have an updated physical or MHSAA Health Questionnaire on file in order to begin practice on Wednesday. If players miss helmet pick up on Tuesday, they will be issued a helmet on Wednesday (or their first day attending). Face cover/masks will be worn at all times.
Football game schedules have been updated to reflect a 4-game season. Games will begin on Wednesday September 30th and the season will conclude on October 20th.
7th & 8th Grade Girls Basketball – Practices have already started, but it’s not too late to join!! Players and coaches can begin practicing indoors in BMS Gym starting on Wednesday 9/9. Practices will run after school as well, 2:15-4:30pm. All players must have an updated physical or MHSAA Health Questionnaire on file in order to begin practice on Wednesday. Face cover/masks will be worn at all times.
Girls Basketball game schedules have been updated and will start the week of Sept 21st and the season will conclude on Oct. 20th.
7th & 8th Sideline Cheer – Practices will begin on Monday September 14th 6-8pm at the HS Track, with a parent meeting at the beginning of practice in the stadium bleachers. MS Cheer will follow the MS Football schedule for cheering at games. All players must have an updated physical or MHSAA Health Questionnaire on file in order to begin practice on the 14th. Face cover/masks will be worn at all times.
Spectators – Per E.O. 2020-176, each athlete will only be allowed two spectators to attend and all spectators must wear a face cover at all times during the contest/event. This is for both Home and Away contests. The day before a scheduled contest, the Brandon Athletic Dept. will issue each player on the roster two tickets. Tickets will be in an envelope and given to the player by their coach. Athletes and their family will decide which two guests will be attending the contest. Unfortunately, children under the age of 5 still count as one guest and will not be admitted with two other ticket holders. We understand that this might cause some difficult decisions within households, but the guidance is clearly written in the Executive Order if we are going to allow our students athletes to compete. We are working on possible ways to live stream our middle school events and once we have the ability, we will share that information.
If you have any questions regarding practices, games or spectator attendance, please feel free to contact the athletic office 248-627-1827. We appreciate your support as we continue to offer a safe educational athletic experience for our students! Take care and GO BLACKHAWKS!
Sincerely Yours in Educational Athletics,
