Friday September 4, 2020 – Athletic Update
Good afternoon Blackhawks!
Wow!! What a whirl-wind the last 24 hours has been. For those who missed the recent announcement from the Governor and the MHSAA, please click to read MHSAA Fall Update #8. While we were all anxiously waiting for this announcement to come from the MHSAA, I don’t think we expected the rush of emotions that came with it… But nonetheless, we are excited to be back and playing Fall sports again!! Below, you will find some important details for each Fall sport. Please read carefully and feel free to contact the athletic office if you have additional questions or concerns.
COACHES – Please double check your schedules. Several contests have been moved or rescheduled. You will need to submit changes for transportation ASAP. Also, please send an updated team roster to the athletic office.
SPECTATORS – All spectators will be required to wear a face covering at all times while attending any events. Spectator limits remain unchanged in Regions 6 and 8. Those in part of the state currently in Phase 4 are limited to two spectators per participant for both indoor and outdoor events. Ortonville-Brandon is currently in Phase 4 and we will be following the two spectator per participant guidelines. Stay tuned for more information on this as we are finalizing our spectator attendance plan.
Also, we have the ability to live stream events played in BHS Main Gym and at Blackhawk Stadium. For those who will not be able to attend in person, you can watch via the NFHS Network and our Pixellot cameras. Go to www.nfhsnetwork.com to create your account and subscribe to watch. We are also exploring ways to live stream at our other athletic venues.
SCHEDULES – With the constant changing and fluidity of this COVID-19 pandemic, along with any changes due to weather, the best way to stay up to date with contest schedules is by using the Activity Scheduler app on your smartphone or device. This is a live up to the minute scheduling app that instantly makes changes as they occur in our office. The app is free on IOS and Android devices. The logo for the app is located below. Please check your team’s schedule daily for any changes.
Contest Limitations – All MHSAA Contest Limitations remain unchanged! You can find each sport’s contest limitations by visiting www.mhsaa.com/sports and click on the Return to Play Guidelines for each specific sport. One additional requirement in this new Executive Order 176 is that a facial covering is worn except when swimming. The MHSAA is seeking further interpretations and guidance on this language in the new order moving forward.
Here is some sport specific information for High School.
Boys & Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf, and Boys Tennis – Schedules remain unchanged and can proceed as scheduled.
Boys Soccer – Competitions can begin immediately in all regions of the State. Brandon is scheduled to host Linden on September 10th. Spectator information will be given out by Tuesday September 8th.
